It was a Southeast Iowa Super Conference double dip in Wayland on Friday with the WACO boys putting the hurt on Burlington Notre Dame and the Warrior girls having a hard time staying with the Nikes.
The Nike (4-6) boys beat up on WACO in two meetings last winter, but the Warriors returned the favor on Friday by dominating in a 59-21 win. They led 15-7 after one, 32-17 at half, and allowed only four points in the final two quarters to pull away. They out rebounded Notre Dame 43-19 and were plus nine in the turnover margin. Hunter Hughes paced the squad with 18 points and six assists. Cody Graber and Colton Leichty each had 10 points while Simeon Reichenbach hauled in seven boards. The Warriors improve to 8-2 overall and 5-2 in the SEISC.
The girls’ game started how WACO wanted with a 10-9 advantage after one, but the No. 7 ranked Nikes (10-0) quickly turned the tide by outscoring the home squad 58-20 the rest of the way for a 67-30 final score. Ellah Kissell led the Warriors with 11 points and Emma Wagler had seven. They drop to 5-6 overall and 2-5 in the league.
Both WACO teams return to the court tonight at Sigourney.
