Hosting Mediapolis for a double dip was the task for the Columbus Community basketball teams on Friday and the road Bulldogs swept the Southeast Iowa Super Conference showdowns.

The Wildcat girls had a promising start trailing just 14-12 after one, but sticking with the undefeated Bulldogs (10-0) did not last with a 53-11 spurt the rest of the way in a 67-23 Mediapolis win. The Bulldogs were plus 16 in the rebounding and turnover margin while shooting 48% from the floor compared to Columbus’ 26%. Hallie Mohr led all scorers with 24 points. The Wildcats were paced by Sera Vela with six points and Lily Coil had seven boards. They drop to a 2-10 overall record and 1-8 in the north division.

The Wildcat boys gave the heavily favored Bulldogs (8-2) all they could handle for two and half quarters, but Mediapolis was able to hold off the surge for a 53-41 victory. Columbus led 8-5 after one and 23-20 at the break before a 33-18 Bulldog run in the final two quarters. The Wildcats had a quick turnaround the next morning to face Central City in the Wells Fargo Advisors Shootout in Cedar Rapids. Central City (3-9) led 29-21 at half and exploded in the third for a 70-44 win. Daniel Martinez led the Wildcats with 19 points. The blue and white are now 3-8 overall and 3-6 in the conference.

Both Columbus teams return home tonight against Wapello.
