A Mount Pleasant man was arrested Sunday morning after attempting to burn down a house with occupants inside.
The Henry County Sheriff’s Office received reports at approximately 10 a.m. of a house on fire in the 1800 grid of Cornell Drive outside of Mount Pleasant. Initial reports stated the fire started in the living room. The Henry County Sheriff’s Office and Mount Pleasant Police Department began an investigation shortly after arriving on the scene. The investigation determined that 37-year-old James Seth Ollom intentionally set fire to the residence following a family disturbance. Occupants were inside the residence when the fire was set and everyone was able to escape with only minor injuries. Ollom is charged with first-degree arson and three counts of attempted murder, both class B felonies. The Mount Pleasant Fire Department, Iowa State Patrol and the State Fire Marshal’s Office assisted at the scene. KCII will bring you more information as it becomes official.
