The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls basketball teams came away winners in a pair of road River Valley Conference contests Tuesday at Durant. The Golden Hawk girls completed a season sweep of the Wildcats with a hard fought 52-48 victory. Mid-Prairie beat Durant in Wellman to start the year 57-37. Mid-Prairie held a slim 16-14 lead through the first and maintained that advantage at 27-25 at the break. The third quarter the ‘Cats rolled to a 17-7 run that lasted the entire frame, as they grew their lead to eight. The Hawks mounted a big fourth quarter comeback, outscoring Durant 18-6 in the final period to secure the win. Maddie Nonnenmann led Mid-Prairie with 21 points, Amara Jones added 13. Mid-Prairie is now 7-5 on the year.

The Golden Hawk boys moved to 12-0 with an 81-55 blasting of Durant on their home floor. A 28 point first quarter for Mid-Prairie keyed the blowout win, putting them up 16 points after the first and 19 at half. The Hawks outscored the Wildcats 35-28 after the break to put the game away. The Hawks shot 57% in the game, forced 17 turnovers, dished out 17 assists and had 13 steals. This week’s JET Physical Therapy Athlete of the Week Carter Harmsen led the way for Mid-Prairie with 22 points, Alex Bean and Ethan Kos each had 14. The Mid-Prairie boys and girls host West Liberty Friday.
