The second area meeting of the season played out a lot like the first on Monday, a pair of runaway Winfield-Mt. Union basketball victories over Southeast Iowa Super Conference foe Highland.
The WMU girls held just a 25-22 lead at intermission, but a 26-14 close to the game allowed them to pull away for a 51-36 home win. Keetyn Townsley led the way with 14 points, Bradie Buffington had 12, and Jobey Malone had 11 while Melina Oepping took care of the glass with 10 boards. Sarah Burton was the lone Huskie in double figures with 11 points. The Wolves moved to 13-2 overall and 10-1 in the conference. Highland fell to 6-8 and 5-5 in the the SEISC.
The boys’ game saw the Wolves lead 28-16 at half and they put the night to bed with a 15-3 third quarter that led to a 56-29 victory. WMU out rebounded Highland 41-22. Cam Buffington led all scorers with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Abram Edwards also recorded a double-double with 14 points and 12 boards while Jake Edwards managed 13 points. Chase Schultz paced the Huskies with nine points and seven rebounds. WMU improved to 12-1 overall and 10-0 in the north. Highland falls to 1-11 and 1-9 in the league.
