A Mount Pleasant man recently pleaded guilty to a lesser felony drug charge in Washington County.
Court documents show that 36-year-old Edward Leroy Wixom was convicted of possession with intent to deliver less than five grams of methamphetamine, a class C felony, and failure to affix drug tax stamp, a class D felony. Ten and five year prison sentences for each count were suspended with Wixom placed on five years of probation. Fines totaling $2,395 with a 15% surcharge were also suspended though he was ordered to pay a civil penalty of $1,750 for the drug tax stamp violation. He was also found not to have the reasonable ability to pay Category B restitution.
Wixom originally faced a class B felony controlled substance charge and was convicted of operating while intoxicated second offense for the February 6, 2021 incident. A Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy was called for a pickup truck that crashed into a snow median near mile marker 80 on southbound Highway 218. Wixom appeared to be under the influence of narcotics. He failed standard field sobriety tests and then consented to a preliminary blood alcohol test which read zero percent. Upon arresting Wixom for driving under suspension a glass pipe was found on Wixom with white residue along with a bag containing about 30 grams of a substance which later tested positive for meth.
