The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks traveled to West Liberty Thursday night for their final dual event of the year, a River Valley Conference quad with Wilton, Durant and the home Comets. Mid-Prairie went 1-2 on the night. The Golden Hawk win came against Durant by a 54-29 score. Mid-Prairie got wins in contested matches by fall from Dalton Miller at 113lbs and Cael Garvey at 195lbs.

The Golden Hawks lost to the Beavers 63-18. Mid-Prairie had wins in contested matches from Cael Garvey at 195lbs and Gannon Callahan at 285lbs both by fall.

The Hawks dropped their dual against West Liberty 62-18. Mid-Prairie’s wins against the Comets all came by forfeit. After the meet, Golden Hawk head coach Justin Garvey talked about his team’s mindset and individual standouts. “We kind of got punched in the mouth right off the bat tonight against Wilton. We’ve got a young team and some of these guys have taken some lumps. Then we go from the tough dual against Wilton and roll right into a dual against West Liberty, and those two teams are both good, they were wrestling for the conference championship tonight. Our confidence was shook. The third dual we wrestled better but we were still pretty beat up mentally. Gannon Callahan at heavyweight avenged that loss to the Wilton kid from the home dual last week. That kid isn’t in Gannon’s league, he just made a mistake last time, this time he wrestled smart. Cael Garvey also wrestled great tonight.”

After dropping two of three, Mid-Prairie ends the dual season 13-9, one win shy of the school record for victories in a single year. The Golden Hawk girls will be on the mat next as the Girls State Wrestling Tournament opens today in Coralville.
