Giving up forfeit points proved to be too costly for the Washington wrestling team last night when they welcomed Burlington for the final home meet of the season and the Grayhounds won the Southeast Conference dual 37-24.

The dual started promising for the orange and black with Jude Carter picking up a 10-0 major decision win at 132 lbs and Lane Schrock riding out a 9-2 victory at 138 lbs. Surrendering 18 forfeit points and falling in five of the next six contested matches was the difference for the Grayhounds with the lone Demon victory in that time coming from Chase Greiner by fall (2:31) at 170 lbs. With the score out of reach, the meet ended on a high note with Aaron Boone picking up his 35th straight win at 120 lbs with a 20-4 technical fall and Jack Kleese making quick work at 126 lbs with a pin in 1:53. Washington went 5-5 in contested matches on the evening. Although he was unable to compete, Logan Frazer was the lone grappler recognized for senior night festivities. Head Coach Brent Van Weelden knew it was going to be a close dual. “Overall it was a pretty competitive dual and it should have been fun for fans with several close matches. Burlington is a good team and we are getting better. This was for second and third in conference and we were just a couple matches away. Tonight they were the better team so congrats to them.”

Washington drops their dual record to 13-6 and the team returns to the mat tomorrow in Letts for the Louisa-Muscatine Invite.
