The Kalona City Council discussed bringing residents a new leaf removal option during a recent work session.
City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh says that while no formal action was taken, the council informally elected to work with Absolute Outdoor Services of Riverside to provide residents with leaf pickup during the spring and fall of 2022. The council is planning to use $20,000 from their general budget for the services. Schlabaugh says that information will be sent out to homeowners as to what the service will entail, rules and regulations and a tentative pick up schedule of one pick up in the spring and three in the fall. He added that they hope this can cut down on leaf burning among other concerns for leaf disposal. Following the completion of the fall pickups, the council will evaluate how successful it was and how many people utilize the service to determine continuing the service. Schlabaugh says the formal approval could come as early as their second February meeting.
