Meeting number two of the season for the Wapello and Lone Tree basketball teams were competitive from start to finish on Tuesday, but the end result looked a lot like the first with a Wapello sweep.
The Lion girls kept the bout close, but the Arrows (9-7) won every quarter to build on a 19-14 halftime lead and win 49-37. Wapello was plus 11 in the turnover margin with Lindsy Massner being a handful to stop with a game-high 23 points. The Arrow senior and Lion senior Kasey Chown were going toe-to-toe with Chown registering 21 points and eight boards. On Monday, Chown became the all time rebounding leader in school history and now has 635 and counting. Riley Krueger added nine points and four assists in the loss. Lone Tree drops to 5-13 overall and 2-9 in the SEISC.
The boys’ game was a tale of two halves with the Lions getting the start they wanted up 17-9 after one and 24-16 at the break. The Indians (9-8) made the necessary adjustments by outscoring the home Lions 39-18 in the second half to pick up a 55-42 road victory. Cade Patterson led the black and gold with 11 points and six boards while Cade Shield added eight points. The Lions are now 3-12 overall and 2-10 in the league.
Both Lone Tree teams face off with Louisa-Muscatine tomorrow.
