Members of the Mid-Prairie FFA chapter recently joined over 600 high school students from 100 different schools for the 37th annual Legislative Symposium and FFA Day at the state capitol Tuesday.   

To kick off the day, FFA members gathered at the Downtown Embassy Suites and heard from Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig and Iowa Farm Bureau Federation President Brent Johnson about the importance of agriculture and young agriculturalists. Elizabeth Burns Thompson from Navigator CO2 then spoke about the importance of advocating for the agricultural industry. The morning program concluded with a message and FFA Week proclamation from Governor Kim Reynolds for February 19-26th. 

Following speaker presentations, Mid-Prairie FFA members visited the Iowa State Capitol Building and spoke with State Senator Kevin Kinney about how to contact their legislators and learn more about the legislative process. Members who participated were Bridget Fisher, Anna Nafziger, Payton Peck, Carmen Sieren, Zane Fisher, Carly Nickell, Blake Peck, Annie Morrison, Brittany Kinsinger, Peighton Ford, Alexa Huber and Rebekah Meader along with FFA Advisor Elsa Schmidt and student teacher Bridget Buol.
