In the middle of a three game in four day stretch, the Washington basketball teams made a trip to Tiffin on Saturday and split a doubleheader with Clear Creek-Amana.
Fresh off of clinching the Southeast Conference crown on Friday night, the No. 4 ranked Demon boys made sure a let down wasn’t in store the next day with a 52-39 victory over the Clippers (12-6). CCA led 11-8 after one, but the Demons fired back with a 16-6 second to take a seven point lead into the break. That margin stayed true until the fourth when Washington had a 15-9 quarter to close out the road win. Washington shot just two of 19 from long range, but finished 12 of 14 from the line. Kasen Bailey led the offense with 15 points and five assists. Lucas Kroll added nine points and 14 rebounds. Ethan Patterson had nine points and Lance Sobaski hauled in 10 boards. The Demons improve to 16-2 overall, their most wins since 2010.
The Washington girls had a tough time keeping up with the Clippers (14-6) by falling 54-17. It was 9-2 CCA after one, but they quickly put the game to bed with a 17-2 spurt in the second and the advantage got steeper in the second half. Ava Locklear led the home squad with 18 points and 13 rebounds. The orange and black fall to 3-16 on the winter.
Both Demon teams get right back at it tonight at Williamsburg. The Raider boys are 17-2 and ranked eighth in class 2A while the girls are 11-8. Game one gets started at 6 p.m. tonight in Williamsburg and listen to the double dip on FM 106.1 KCII.
