An already dominant Sigourney-Keota wrestling season continued when it mattered most on Saturday with the No. 12 ranked Savages placing first at their home class 1A sectional. 

An eye-popping nine Savages cracked the top two to advance to districts and the team finished first out of eight with 261 points, 74 more than the second place squad. Three grapplers stood on top of the podium with Cade Molyneux at 160 lbs winning by a pair of falls in 2:00 and 3:27, Jack Clarahan taking care of business at 170 lbs by a pin in 30 seconds and a 15-2 major, and Conner Reed recorded a fall in his only match at 220 lbs in 1:01. Six other members had runner-up finishes to move on including Reanah Utterback at 106 lbs, Austin Gorsh at 113 lbs, Brady Clark at 120 lbs, DJ Hammes at 132 lbs, Evan Dawson at 152 lbs, and Aidan Schuster at 182 lbs. 

All nine grapplers advance to Saturday’s districts at Wapello. Furthermore, the team title clinched a spot in the regional duals today at Wilton. S-K will battle No. 11 Alburnett starting at 6 p.m. with the winner facing the No. 8 Beavers for the right to go to next week’s state dual tournament.
