The Columbus Community basketball teams competed in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference Shootout over the weekend and lost a pair of games. 

The Wildcat girls battled Cardinal in Lone Tree for the eighth seed game on Friday and the Comets (5-17) came out on top 45-33. The first half was a game of runs with Cardinal jumping out to a 19-8 advantage after eight minutes, but the Wildcats cut it to 24-21 at the break. It was a two point ballgame with eight minutes left when the Comets closed with a 14-4 spurt to seize victory. Cardinal won the free throw battle 17 to 2. The blue and white were led by Lily Coil with 15 points and nine boards. The Wildcats close the regular season 3-18 and start up the class 2A regionals Saturday at Danville (11-10).

Columbus met Burlington Notre Dame in the boys sixth seed game on Saturday with the Nikes (7-13) rolling to a 55-27 win at West Burlington. The Nikes won every quarter including shooting 52% from the floor compared to the Wildcats’ 18%. Tim Hills recorded 13 points and seven boards for Columbus. They drop to 4-16 and wrap up the regular season today at Mediapolis (13-6).
