Both offenses desperately trying to breakout in Keota on Monday did just that with the Eagle boys upending Highland 79-61 in a non-conference bout.
Each team had their highest scoring output of the season and tallied double digits in every quarter with the home Eagles leading 15-10 after one and 39-23 at the break. Highland put up 38 in the second half, but couldn’t stop a Keota offense that shot 49% for the game and made 25 of 34 free throws. Four Eagles were in double figures led by Sawyer Stout’s 21 point effort and Evan Vittetoe managed 17 points and 11 boards. Aidan Anderson recorded 13 points while Cole Kindred had 11 and dished out nine assists. Chase Schultz paced the Huskies with 16 points and seven boards. Brenton Bonebrake and Devin Lovetinsky each registered 10 points.
The Eagles had a quick turnaround last night welcoming Davis County (10-11) with the Mustangs prevailing 75-69. Davis County built a 36-26 halftime lead and kept the Eagles at arm’s length the rest of the way. Kindred hit four of six triples to finish with a game-high 29 points and the sophomore dished out five assists and created five steals. Stout had 15 points and Vittetoe brought in 10 boards.
Keota concludes the regular season 10-11 and they battle Tri-County in a preliminary class 1A district game on Friday. Highland is 4-17 and they travel to Winfield-Mt. Union on Monday to open their postseason.
