The Washington City Council recently approved a revised resolution to set a public hearing regarding demolition of the former wastewater treatment plant.
The council was presented with a revised resolution at their February 1st meeting to set February 15th as the public hearing date for plans, specifications, and form of contract for bids on the demolition. Finance Director Kelsey Brown explained that the resolution they approved on January 18th listed an incorrect time for bids to be received. The council also approved the first, second, and third and final readings of an ordinance amending the ward boundaries for the City of Washington. The council previously approved the new ward boundaries on January 4th in accordance with the 2020 U.S. Census, and City Clerk Sally Hart explained that the council had to approve an amended ordinance because the state requested the city to change the language in the ordinance from wards to precincts. There were no changes to the map, though Hart added they also had to change the description of a particular block that was not adequate in the previous ordinance.
