Two women were arrested Monday for felony robbery in Washington Sunday.

The criminal complaint states at 5:36 p.m. the Washington Police Department received a report of an assault. The victim informed the officer that after midnight Saturday she was at a business in the 200 block of West Main Street when a person she knew as “Vala” persuaded her to get into a 2015 black Chevy Impala. The person driving the vehicle, identified as 32-year-old Claudia Itzel Sanchez-Rangel of Washington, and “Vala” allegedly began to physically strike and choke the victim. Sanchez-Rangel then drove around gravel roads until they reached a business in the 300 block of North 4th Avenue. The victim attempted to flee the vehicle but was dragged on the gravel parking lot causing multiple injuries to her back. The incident stopped when a friend of the victim witnessed the struggle and interjected.

Sanchez-Rangel and Vala took the victim’s purse which contained $900 and other items. The police then obtained a search warrant for Sanchez-Rangel’s apartment and vehicle located in the 1600 block of North 6th Avenue. Upon execution of the warrant Sunday night the identity of Vala was discovered as 24-year-old Taylon Del-Trece Goodwin of Jefferson City, Missouri. Law enforcement found over $5,000 in cash in the apartment, the victim’s purse and wallets in the car, and the victim’s jacket which appeared ripped and blood stained. Sanchez-Rangel and Goodwin were arrested and charged with second-degree robbery, a class C felony. After they were taken to the jail, staff found an additional $300 cash on Sanchez-Rangel.
