It was the end of the road for the Sigourney girls’ basketball team on Tuesday when they traveled to North English and fell to English Valleys for the third time by a 52-45 final score in a class 1A regional quarterfinal. 

Having lost by 20-plus points in both regular season meetings, the Savages made it apparent early they would be a much tougher out by leading 11-9 after one and trailing just 26-25 at the break. It was a two-point ballgame in the fourth when the Bears had a 12-7 close to the game to avoid the upset bid. English Valleys hit eight triples including three from Maddie Mikesell and the senior finished with 12 points. 

EV improves to 20-3 and they will battle Montezuma (18-4) in tomorrow’s semifinal bout. Sigourney ends the campaign 12-12 and they lose just one senior in Julia VanEe.
