A high school violinist who has been playing since she was four years old will be giving a free performance this week at the Washington Public Library.

Seventeen-year-old Katya Moeller of Iowa City will be performing a noontime concert Thursday with accompaniment from her mother, University of Iowa professor and piano department chair Ksenia Nosikova. A prolific performer, Moeller has performed in several competitions across the United States, and has received such awards as the first prize winner of the World Bach Competition in 2020. She has been a featured young guest artist with the Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra, and she currently spends her weekends in Chicago studying with Professor Almita Vamos of the prestigious Music Institute of Chicago. Washington Concert Association Treasurer Julie Zahs first heard Moeller play several years ago with her mother at the library and has been impressed by her musicianship ever since, “Now she’s a senior and she’s ready to apply to conservatories and universities and this is her repertoire of music that she’s going to be playing to try to audition to get into one of these prestigious schools.”

Zahs believes the library is very fortunate to have Moeller perform at one of their Thursday free noon concerts, and she encourages the public to attend.
