The postseason started on a high note for the third ranked and top seeded Washington boys’ basketball team on Monday when they had little trouble against eight-seeded South Tama winning 54-29 in a first round class 3A game.

As heard on KCII, it didn’t take long for the orange and black to take complete control by racing out to a 15-0 lead in the first four minutes and 22-3 after one. The Trojans (2-21) had a hard time breaking the Demon press and the advantage grew to 43-15 at the break. The margin eventually got to the 35 point continuous clock threshold and every Demon saw significant action in the second half. Eight players found the score column on a balanced night with Kasen Bailey leading the way recording 13 points and Lance Sobaski had 10.

Head Coach Collin Stark tells KCII Sports it was all about the start. “Every game we always talk about the first four minutes coming out fast and I thought our guys did that. Our pressure was causing havoc and it wasn’t that we were getting a lot of steals, but putting them in positions where they threw the ball away. Our boys are always wanting to get on the court and they play well together. It was fun to watch our guys do the little things in that first half.”

Washington improves to 19-3 and advance to Thursday’s semifinal hosting four-seeded Solon (14-9). The Spartans defeated Center Point-Urbana last night by a 42-32 final score. The Demons upended Solon in a close one 41-34 last week and listen to Thursday’s bout on FM 106.1 KCII.
