Residents in the Mid-Prairie School District go to the polls today to decide the fate of a bond referendum proposed by the school board. Voters are being asked if the district should issue $26.3 million in general obligation bonds for several building projects within the district and to raise the Debt Service Levy maximum from $2.70 per $1,000 of assessed value to a possible $4.05.

Voters in the City of Kalona, English River and Jackson Townships will vote at the Kalona Community Building. Residents in the Cities of Wellman and West Chester, Lime Creek, Cedar, Dutch Creek and Franklin Townships will cast ballots at the Wellman Parkside Activities Center. Johnson County voters from Washington Township will vote at the Mid-Prairie Home School Education Center, those in Sharon Township in Johnson County will vote at the Sharon Center United Methodist Church. District residents in Iowa County will cast their ballots at Parnell City Hall. All polling locations are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Mailed absentee ballots can also be dropped off at the resident’s county auditor’s office until 8 p.m.Both ballot questions need a supermajority of 60% in favor to pass..
