Washington County-area high school students who would like a learning opportunity that extends past their respective school’s offerings can attend an informational event tonight.
The Kirkwood Washington County Regional Center is hosting their annual college credit in high school information night Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. for students currently in eighth-11th grade and their parents to learn about the center’s career academy programs that help students earn credit towards their diploma as well as college credits that can be applied to many colleges and universities. Center Director Tera Pickens says this is a wonderful and free opportunity for students, “So locally at the Washington County Regional Center , years ago our school partners and Kirkwood came together to determine what sort of programming would be available at the regional center that is not already available at the high school. So when we talk about these career academy opportunities, these are expanded programming that’s above and beyond what students can participate in, in their high schools.”
The Kirkwood Washington Center offers career academies in robotics and welding; agricultural science; architecture, construction and engineering; culinary; dental; and more. The preferred registration deadline for the career academies is March 15th, and those attending the information night are asked to RSVP in advance. For more information visit here.
