Two public measures failed to pass in a special election held in the Mid-Prairie School District Tuesday.

Mid-Prairie residents in Washington, Johnson, and Iowa counties cast their vote on two questions of whether the district shall issue up to $26.3 million in general obligation bonds to build, furnish, and equip additions to the existing school facilities including classrooms, a high school auditorium, a middle school gym and locker rooms, and a wrestling and weight room addition to the high school indoor practice facility. Both measures needed 60% of votes in favor in order to pass, and they failed in all three counties. Washington County needed 525 votes in favor for each measure to pass, and the unofficial results show that Public Measure A received 502 votes in favor, and Public Measure B received 494 in favor. Johnson County’s results show 74 votes, or 52.1%, were in favor of Public Measure A, and 77 votes, or 53.8% were in favor of Public Measure B. Iowa County saw consistent votes across the board with nine in favor and 21 opposed for both measures.

These results are unofficial until a canvassing conducted by the board of supervisors for each county. The Johnson County Auditor’s Office notes that since a change in absentee ballot voting that was made by the Iowa Legislature last year, the only ballots that can be counted after Election Night are provisional ballots, ballots cast through the Secretary of State’s “Safe At Home” address confidentiality program or overseas ballots. You can find a break down of Washington and Johnson counties’ results below.
