All state awards are starting to pile in for girls’ basketball teams and Winfield-Mt. Union’s Bradie Buffington is in the mix. The junior was named class 1A third team all state by the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association for her work on the hardwood this winter.
The 5’11’’ post player was one of 24 players in class 1A that were recognized on the three teams. She was a first team Southeast Iowa Super Conference selection by being in the top three of the league in points and rebounds. Her 227 total boards including 108 offensive ranked first in the division and she brought them in at a 9.5 a game clip. Buffington paced WMU with 15 points a night, shot 49% from the floor, created 27 steals, 23 assists, and recorded 22 blocks. With one more season to go in her prep career, the junior now has 622 career points and 441 rebounds.
Buffington helped lead the Wolves to a 19-5 season and a regional semifinal berth.
