Several Washington Middle School musicians were recognized at the Southeast Iowa Bandmasters Association District Jazz Festival this month.

Fifteen Demons traveled to Clear-Creek Amana High School on March 5th, and while the middle school/junior high division was a noncompetitive/clinic format, the judges gave out awards to students for excellence in soloing as well as an Outstanding Soloist of the Day, which went to Washington eighth grade drummer Iris Dahl. She was awarded out of all performers in class 1A to 3A. Excellence awards were also given to Angeline Anderson for alto saxophone and piano, and Maya Bruty for flute. The jazz band finished out their season with a performance at Washington’s All-School Jazz Concert held last Tuesday.
