Two event championships and numerous impressive showings came from KCII listening area athletes Friday in the Iowa Association of Track Coaches indoor meet championships on the campus of Iowa State University in Ames.

The Washington Demons had the highest area team finish, taking seventh in class 3A with 32 points. North Polk was the 3A meet champion with 85 points. Elijah Morris won the 400m dash championship, beating the field around the loop in 50.83 seconds. Lance Sobaski was third in the mile in 4:41.99. The Demons put a pair in the top 10 in the high jump with Ethan Patterson and Kasen Bailey both getting to 5’10”. Brayden Hartman was fourth in the shot with a throw of 46’3.5″. Jacob Miller was sixth in the 60m dash in 7.28 seconds. Ethan Zieglowsky was 17th in the 60m hurdles in 10.11 seconds.

The Mid-Prairie boys were 12th in class 2A with their overall score of 19 points. Underwood took the team championship with 60 points. Cain Brown was the champion in the high jump clearing 6’7″. The junior now holds the Mid-Prairie school record at that height, breaking the previous of 6’6″, which he owned along with his dad following last year’s district meet. Other top performances for the Golden hawks included Thaddeus Shtetler third in the mile in 4:37.62. Brown sixth in the 60m hurdles in 8.86 seconds. The 4×800 team of Jayse Yoder, Emmett Swartzentruber, Nathan Wallington and Robert Nagy were 11th in 9:28.99. The shuttle hurdle team of Micah Hostetler, Landry Gingerich, Cobi Hershberger and Lincoln Wulf were 12th in 41.01 seconds. Jackson Gehman finished 16th in the long jump in 18’1.75″. The 4×100 team of Gehman, Tyler Helmuth, Hunter Price and Braden Hartley were 18th in 47.57 seconds. Blake Creed was 22nd in the 800 in 2:19.18. The 4×400 team of Kaden Meader, Gehman, Shetler and Cleveland Hoffman were 23rd in 4:07.73. Grady Gingerich was 32nd in the shot put in 35’5″ and Peyton Shilumba ws 39th in 60m dash 7.94 seconds.

Columbus finished 16th in the 1A team standings with 15 points. New London won the 1A team contest with 57 points. Kaden Amigon had a big day for the ‘Cats. He was fourth in the long jump, clearing 19’11”. The 4×800 team of Isaac Acosta, Damian Vergara, Tyler Humiston and Freddy Vergara were fifth in 9:01.52. Acosta was sixth in the 800 in 2:09.99. Freddy Vergara took seventh in the two-mile at 10:59.24. Amigon was eighth in the 60m dash in 7.38 seconds. The Wildcat 4×100 team of Jeff Hoback, Juan Chairez, Andy Gonzales and Amigon were 13th in 47.45 seconds. Russell Coil was 16th in the shot with a throw of 36’10” and the 4×400 team of Dante Zuniga, Humiston, Acosta and Chairez took 18th in 4:12.13.
