The office of Iowa State Auditor Rob Sand completed their review of the City of Sigourney’s fiscal year ending June 30th, 2021. The cause for the audit stemmed from the city’s total amount of receipts, topping $4.7 million, a 49% increase over fiscal year 2020. Disbursements for fiscal year 2021 also saw a large jump, to a total of $4.2 million, a nearly 58% increase. It was found that the increases in receipts were due to a new water and sewer bond with the increase in disbursements due to payments made on sewer and water projects started that year.
Sand’s office reported findings addressing issues such as a lack of segregation of duties, a lack of bank reconciliations, and a lack of utility reconciliations. Sand provided the city with recommendations to address each of these findings and also pointed out that these concerns were mentioned in an audit of the previous year.
