A young Columbus girls basketball team put up some impressive numbers during the recently completed season. The ‘Cats boasted a trio of freshman that ranked among the best in the Southeast Iowa Superconference and state in class 2A.

Lily Coil led the Superconference in freshman scoring, north or south division, with her eight and a half points per game. Her 44 total assists were the seventh most for a freshman in all of class 2A, and most for freshmen in the Superconference North. Coil was an expert at swiping steals this season, finishing with 3.2 per game and 70 total, the highest total for any freshman in Iowa in class 2A. Her 33% field goal percentage led freshmen in the Superconference North. Coil was a second team All-Superconference North Division pick.

Wildcat Aracely Garza led Superconference freshmen with 5.8 rebounds per game and 128 boards total this season. That total was eighth for freshman in class 2A. Sharp shooter Frannie Sosa led the Superconference North freshman class at 27% from downtown.
