A Mediapolis man was recently ordered to serve 120 days in jail for the second convicted violation of probation on an original Washington County charge of forgery or theft of a lottery ticket, a class D felony.
Court records show that 49-year-old James Arthur Brown admitted he violated the terms of his probation as he pleaded guilty to an amended charge of assault in Muscatine County. Rather than having Brown’s probation revoked, the Court held him in contempt of court and sentenced him to serve 120 days in the Washington County Jail with credit for time served while being held to answer to the complaint. He is unsuccessfully discharged from his probation. Brown was arrested in March of 2021 for this second probation violation, and his first violation occurred in September of 2020. At that time he was ordered to serve 10 days in jail concurrently with a 10-day sentence for violating his probation on a Washington County conviction of domestic abuse assault third or subsequent offense, a class D felony. The forgery incident occurred on January 17, 2018 and the domestic abuse incident occurred on February 24 of the same year.
