The Highland School District continues their pursuit toward compliance with parameters set forth by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. At their March 14th meeting, the board accepted a $1.097 million bid from Spectra Build of Wapello for a wastewater treatment system upgrade. This was the lowest of the five bids received. Work is expected to be completed by the start of the next school year.

KCII first reported on the DNR compliance issue for the district in 2019 when it was found that ammonia and E. coli levels in the district’s wastewater were too high. At that point, the district was issued a timetable through July 2022, to move within acceptable parameters. They began work at that time with Matt Wildman of HR Green. The DNR has given the district an extension to 2027 for compliance.
