A Charlotte, North Carolina man was arrested in Winfield after meeting with a 13-year-old girl Tuesday night.

Court documents show that at about 11:52 p.m. 24-year-old Zachary Nathan Girard called 911 asking for a ride to a hotel from his girlfriend’s house. Girard explained that he arrived a few hours earlier after taking a bus from North Carolina to Iowa City and then an Uber to Winfield to meet his supposed girlfriend. He said they met in her yard for about a half hour before she went back inside, and that they kissed and he touched her through her clothes and she touched his pants. Girard also said that the victim’s mother texted him one to two weeks ago telling him that the victim is 13 years old and to leave her alone. He was also found to be in possession of an unopened bag he claimed contained marijuana. Girard is charged with indecent contact with a child, an aggravated misdemeanor, and possession of marijuana first offense, a serious misdemeanor. He was transported to the Henry County Jail.
