At times, gratitude can be something that is hard to put into words. Local citizens, businesses and groups were able to show local firefighters how they feel about their work within our communities during an appreciation meal last week. Dave Dickinson of Riverside helped to spearhead the event to recognize the agencies who responded to a fatal house fire in rural Riverside this January, collecting funds from local businesses and partnering with area organizations.

The meal served members of the Riverside, Kalona, Ainsworth, Hills, Wellman and Lone Tree Fire Departments. It was catered by Jerry and Marge Sweeting, hosted by the Riverside VFW Post 6414 and local girl scout troops helped with cleanup the night of the event.
