History will be made on the pitch Tuesday night in Tipton when the Mid-Prairie boys and girls soccer teams travel to take on the Tigers in a River Valley Conference doubleheader. The Golden Hawk boys come into action with a 3-0 record and are ranked No. 1 in class 1A in the first poll of the year from the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association. This is the first time in program history they have held the top spot in the state in any class, and the first time they have been ranked in the top two since a runner-up finish at state in 2014. Mid-Prairie’s victims so far this season include No. 11 Williamsburg, Columbus and Monticello by a combined 9-1 score. The Hawks shut out the Panthers Friday in Wellman 5-0 behind a pair of Gunnar Gingerich goals. Owen Trimpe leads Mid-Prairie on the scoresheet this year with three goals. He and Braden Hartley have two assists each. In goal, Justice Jones has 160 minutes and a 91% save percentage, stopping 10 of 11 shots sent his way.

Tipton is 1-2 this year, falling to West Liberty and Mount Vernon and posting a victory over area school Hillcrest Academy. Last time out the Tigers were beaten by the No. 7 ranked Comets 8-1. For the year the Tigers have been outscored 16-4. They are led by Eli Jauron with a pair of goals and Jackson Smock with a pair of assists. In goal, Bryce Edens has a 59% save percentage, stopping 16 of 27 shots he has seen in 160 minutes of action. This is only Tipton’s second year with a varsity program. The Golden Hawks beat them a season ago by an 8-1 score.

The Mid-Prairie girls are 2-2 on the year after a shut out loss in Wellman Monday to the No. 14 ranked Solon Spartans 4-0. Along with the loss to Solon, the Hawks also dropped a 1-0 match to Williamsburg and have wins over Monticello and Columbus by a combined 16-1 score. On the season, the Hawks are led by Esther Hughes’ 10 goals, fourth most in class 1A. She also has a team best three assists. In goal Ainsley Lueck has played all 240 minutes and saved 89% of shots she has seen.

Tipton is 1-2 this year with a 3-0 win over Columbus last night. The Tigers have also dropped matches to West Liberty and Mediapolis by a combined 5-1 score. In the win over the Wildcats. Kennedy Daufeldt scored twice, Avary Calonder had an assists and Kyra Shaull finished in goal with seven saves recording the clean sheet. Those three are the team leaders with Daufeldt accounting for two goals, Calonder tied with Carly Langenberg for the team lead with one assist each and Shaull posting 31 saves so far this season for an 86% save percentage. These two teams met for the first time ever last year with Mid-Prairie taking a 6-1 win.

Action starts tonight in Tipton with the girls on the field first at 5p.m. and the boys starting at 6:30.
