It was a beautiful night for track on Monday in the inaugural Mike Kautz Invitational at Lone Tree and several KCII area teams were competing.
For already the fourth time this spring, the Columbus Community boys nabbed a meet title by besting the seven team field with 150 points, compared to second place New London’s 138. Six Wildcat events took home gold including Kaden Amigon sweeping the sprints in the 100m (11.48), 200m (23.06), and 400m (53.66). Freddy Vergara handled the 3200m (10:34), the 4×400 meter relay won consisting of Vergara, Tyler Humiston, Damian Vergara, and Isaac Acosta (4:07), and the 4x800m of Humiston, Tim Hills-Carrier, Mason Hills-Carrier, and Damian Vergara (8:54).
Mid-Prairie was third with 120 points, Lone Tree fourth with 80, Highland fifth with 67, and WACO sixth with 10. The Golden Hawks’ Kaden Meader was a champ in the 110m high hurdles (18.34) and the shuttle hurdle relay also won consisting of Justice Jones, Meader, Cain Brown, and Braden Hartley (1:08). Lone Tree’s Cade Patterson got to enjoy a title at home in the 400m hurdles (1:05) and the Highland 4x200m relay placed first (1:36). This team was Connor Grinstead, Jacob Hill, Logan Bonebrake, and Tyler Thompson.
The girls’ side saw Mid-Prairie run select events and still place second with 121 points while Wapello won with 153. Lone Tree was third with 111, Highland fourth with 81, Columbus Community fifth with 49, Keota sixth with 18, and Hillcrest Academy’s 17 points nabbed seventh out of eight. The Golden Hawks once again dominated the long distance with Danielle Hostetler placing first in the 1500m (4:55) by 67 seconds and Abby Fleming won the 3000m (11:41). The 4x800m of Greta Sieren, Annika Poll, Des Poll, and Ivy Reschly managed first (11:30) and so did the shuttle hurdle relay of Behla Schmidt, Nora Pennington, Emily Schlabach, and Ashlee Farrier (1:15). Rylee Shield picked up a title for the home Lions in the 400m (1:05) and the 4×400 had the best time with this team being Vivian Zaruba, Cate Sexton, Lexi Norris, and Rylee Shield. Highland champs included Sarah Burton in the long jump (17’2’’) and Jessica Kraus in the discus (83’5.5’’). Lily Coil of Columbus bested the field in the 100m hurdles (17.38).
