It was a windy evening on the track in Mount Pleasant on Thursday for the Denny White Relays, but that didn’t stop the Washington boys from having a strong showing placing third in the large class division. 

The Demons were third out of nine in Class A by compiling 114 points, only behind Clear Creek-Amana with 140 and Iowa City Liberty with 169. Just day’s after breaking the school record in the 800m, Lance Sobaski did it again last night, this time in the 1600m. The senior’s first place run of 4:24.51 broke a meet record and the school’s all time best mark of 4:24.6 set in 1975 by Perry Stannard. Brayden Hartman also took home gold hardware by besting the field in the shot put (52’0’’). Hartman was second in the discus (132’5’’), Jacob Miller third in the 100m (11:59), Micah Rees third in the one mile (4:48), Ethan Patterson third in the high jump (5’10’’), and Quinn Wubbena third in the 400m hurdles (58.9). 

Three area boys’ squads competed in the Class B division with WACO placing sixth out of 13 with 57 points, Winfield-Mt. Union was seventh with 49, and Lone Tree 10th with 32. Mediapolis took home the top spot with 127 points. The Warrior shuttle hurdle relay struck gold in 1:09 with this team consisting of Clayton Miller, Isaac Oswald, Zach Schmitz, and Mason Miller. Schmitz was also second in the 110m high hurdles. Gabe Hemsworth did his thing for the Wolves finishing first in the 400m hurdles clocking in at 1:00. Lone Tree’s Cade Patterson was third in the 110m hurdles (17.72).
