The best of the best on the track got together Saturday at Iowa City West High School for the 2022 Eastern Iowa Track and Field Festival and three Golden Hawks were named champions.
Mid-Prairie’s Mitzi Evans rolled through the 400 competition on her way to the title with a time of 57.80 seconds. It was a Mid-Prairie 1-2 punch at the top of the standings in the 3000 with Danielle Hostetler winning the event in 10:40.02 followed by teammate Sydney Yoder in second. Mid-Prairie’s double gold winner was Jayden Stafford winning the wheelchair 100 and 200 events with his times of 21.03 and 40.99.
Other top Mid-Prairie performances included runner-up for the Mid-Prairie girls 4×100 team of Emma Lueck, Alyssa McDowell, Tabitha and Mitzi Evans, fourth for Cain Brown in the high jump, fourth for the boys shuttle hurdle crew of Justice Jones, Kaden Meader, Braden Hartley and Brown, fourth for the distance medley team of Brown, Carter Harmsen, Will Cavanagh and Thaddeus Shetler, fifth for the 4×200 team of Tyler Helmuth, Harmsen, Cavanagh and Hartley and fifth for Tabitha Evans in the 200.
Kaden Amigon also competed for the Columbus boys, finishing as runner-up in the 200.
