Monday belongs to the Mid-Prairie ladies on the field of competition with all Golden Hawk girls sports in action.
The Mid-Prairie girls golf team is at Wahkonsa in Wilton for a River Valley Conference triangular with West Branch and the home Beavers. Mid-Prairie last competed a week ago where they slammed Tipton on the road 218-269, with each of the six varsity Golden Hawks posting a score better than Tipton’s top score, led by Alexa Huber’s 52. On the season, the Hawks have a team nine-hole average of 216 with Gabi Robertson’s 55 individual average leading the way. West Branch will be in Wilton tonight. The Golden Hawks beat the Bears in dual action 211-219 on April 4th. The Bears last played on Monday, beating Durant 210-218 behind Claire Jarrett’s 48. On the season West Branch is averaging a team nine-hole score of 220 led by Alex Poppen’s 52. Wilton has been off since an April 4th dual with Durant where they tied the Wildcats at 224, but were beaten by one shot on the count of a fifth players score. On the year, the Beavers have a 241 average per nine-holes led individually by Joann Martin’s 55. Action starts at 4p.m. and continues into the evening at Wahkonsa Golf Course in Wilton.
The Mid-Prairie girls track team makes a long trip north to Hudson High School tonight. The Golden Hawks had a big performance Saturday at Iowa City West at the Eastern Iowa Track and Field Festival, bringing home two titles, including Mitzi Evans in the 400 with a time of 57.80 seconds and a 1-2 punch in the 3000 with Danielle Hostetler winning the event in 10:40.02 and Sydney Yoder less than two seconds behind her. The Golden Hawk 4×100 team of Emma Lueck, Alyssa McDowell, Tabitha and Mitzi Evans were runners-up and Tabitha Evans was fifth in the 200. Other teams in Hudson tonight include AGWSR, Aplington-Parkersburg, BCLUW, Belle Plaine, Benton, Cedar Falls, Clarksville, Waterloo Columbus, Denver, Dike-New Hartford, Don Bosco, Gladbrook-Reinbeck, Janesville, South Winneshiek, Sumner-Fredericksburg, Tripoli, Union and the home Pirates. Action starts at 4:30 and continues into the evening at Hudson High School.
The Golden Hawk girls soccer team welcomes Central Lee to Wellman tonight. The Hawks are at .500 for the season with a 3-3 record after a 4-0 loss at Grinnell to end last week. Mid-Prairie has scored 21 goals and given up 14. They are led individually by Esther Hughes’ 14 goals, second most in class 1A. She also leads the team with three assists. Ainsley Lueck has played all 480 minutes in goal, saving 37 of 51 shots for a 73% save percentage. Central Lee is 4-0 this year, they beat Mediapolis Tuesday 6-3. On the season, the Hawks have 23 team goals and have given up five, led individually by five each from Addy Brumble and Aubree Boyd. Boyd has a team best six assists. In goal, Bailey Schwartz has a 79% save percentage, stopping 19 of 24 shots she has seen. These teams have met just once, that came in 2019, a 7-1 Mid-Prairie win.
