Music, food, and film will be enjoyed this Thursday as local historian Mike Zahs and Red Cedar Chamber Music reunite for a new traveling show.

The Marion-based ensemble and Zahs are setting off for a 15-date tour around the state for a new show titled, “Brinton Surprise.” The show will feature silent films and magic lantern slides from the Frank and Indiana Brinton collection, and new and previously performed music that has been specifically composed for the show. This is Zahs’ fifth series of engagements with the group led by Miera Kim and Carey Bostian, and their reunion comes not a moment too soon, “It has been over two years in the making and then the pandemic got in the way and everything, but they started composing some of these things maybe four years ago. So it’s been a long time in the making.”

The “Brinton Surprise” show begins at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Ainsworth Opera House, and per tradition a special meal will be served at 6 p.m. that will tie in with the performance, which Zahs shares is a Venetian cuisine. Tickets are $25 for the dinner and performance, with some of the proceeds going to the opera house community center. To make a reservation contact the phone number listed above.
