The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls soccer team doubled up the visiting Central Lee Hawks Monday night in a non-conference match 4-2, at the Wellman Rotary Soccer Fields. Mid-Prairie got on the board early with a seventh minute Sophie Baker strike to take a 1-0 lead they wouldn’t give up the rest of the night. Three minutes later it was Kaitlin Martin’s turn as she doubled the Mid-Prairie lead. Martin found the back of the net again before half to open a wild 90 second stretch of play. Martin’s 37th minute goal made it 3-0 Mid-Prairie. Central Lee scored one minute later to get within 3-1 only to see the Golden Hawks answer with an Esther Hughes goal 30 seconds later in the 38th minute to take a 4-1 lead into the break. Martin spoke after the match about her teams work on the offensive end. “I was just using my pace over there I guess. I was running pretty fast, doing some skills past that girl. Not gonna lie, the second one I was crossing and it just floated into the net, but I’ll take it! Tonight I think we did pretty good attacking, finding crosses, trying to find each other, and then the goals came once we got that figured out.”

After half, the team’s defenses settled in and scoring was cut to one Central Lee goal in the 62nd minute, but they would get no closer than 4-2 down the stretch. The win moves Mid-Prairie to 4-3, the loss drops Central Lee to 4-1.
