A new record was set at the ninth annual Kewash Trail Half Marathon in Washington last weekend.

Hundreds of runners from Iowa and across the U.S. braved morning temperatures ranging in the 30’s with sunny skies on April 16th, and Jane Bareikis of Crestwood, Illinois set the new women’s half marathon record with a time of 1:15:04. Bareikis finished in first place overall, and received a $1,000 check at the finish line as part of Washington State Bank’s Record Challenge. The Kewash Trail Half Marathon is organized by YMCA of Washington County, and proceeds from the event go to support various athletic and recreational programs. This year’s recipients were the Washington High School baseball, track, and cross country teams, and Girls on the Run program. YMCA Group Fitness Director Teri Hartzler says while this year’s number of registrants was below last year’s record attendance, she says the event continues to grow and this year 17 states were represented.
