The Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union boys soccer team was not phased by an impromptu road trip on Monday. Due to field conditions in Columbus Junction, their match with Hillcrest Academy was moved to Kalona and the Wildcats stayed the course to come away with a 2-1 win. Only one goal went on the board in the first half, a Wildcat penalty kick by Gabe Alcala. Trailing 1-0 going into the second half, the Ravens found the equalizer when Micah Gerber connected with Jorge Canchola to beat the Wildcat defense and tie the contest with 25 minutes remaining. The Wildcats found the game winner with 10 minutes left in the match and held off Hillcrest with 10 saves. With the win, the Wildcats are now 6-2 and have won four straight, Hillcrest falls to 4-4.
