The Mid-Prairie boys and girls golf teams will both be on the course Monday. Last time out for the Golden Hawk girls they beat the Wilton Beavers in a River Valley duel 209-218 in Kalona. The Golden Hawks team average per nine holes stands at 214 on the year with Gabi Robertson as the individual leader at a 54 average per nine holes. This week, Mid-Prairie’s lone senior Madelyn Bender talked about how the team has been playing to this point in the year. “It’s always fun seeing the younger players grow so much, and how good we are compared to this time last year. It’s really exciting. Not having my sophomore season, I’m really wishing I could have another year with these girls but we have together and we’re doing good so, I’m proud of our team.”
A triangular awaits the Golden Hawk girls. On their trip to West Liberty they will meet the homestanding Comets who enter the night with their last recorded action coming April 21st at the Golden Hawk Invitational where they finished ninth in a field of nine teams with their 513 score on 18-holes, led by Aly Harned’s 105. For the year, the Comets are shooting 257 as a team per nine holes, with Harned’s average score of 50 leading the way.
The Golden Hawks will also see West Branch tonight. The Bears last competed a week ago, beating Tipton 214-215 behind Sophia Kouba’s round of 50. On the year the Bears shoot a team average of 218 per nine holes, led by Alex Poppen’s 52. These two met earlier in the year with the Golden Hawks beating the Bears 211-219.
The Mid-Prairie boys host West Liberty in an RVC duel tonight in Kalona. The Golden Hawk boys are coming off of a 12th place showing at West Liberty’s home course Invitational last week with their overall score of 419, led by Drew Schlabaugh’s 93. On the year, the Hawks are shooting a 211 average per nine holes, led by Schlabaugh at 48. West Liberty also played last at their home tournament where they were fourth with a score of 362, led by Ty Jones with an 84. On the year, the Comets shoot a 179 team average per nine holes, led by Jones at 42. Last time these two met in a duel it was West Liberty that scored a 182-203 victory last May. Action in both events gets underway at 4p.m. with the boys in Kalona and the girls at West Liberty.
