Finances dominated talking points at the recent Mid-Prairie School Board meeting. Changes were made to the student fee schedule to take effect in the upcoming 2022-23 school year. The Board voted to reinstate a $50 per student book rental fee for those in four-year-old preschool through 12th grade. It was estimated that this would bring the district roughly $70,000. This fee has not been in place since the 2019-20 school year. They also approved a nickel increase to student lunch and breakfast prices, which had not seen an increase in price in four years. The caveat to this increase is that the State has not set minimum prices for meals for adults for the upcoming school year. The district currently charges $3.95 for adult lunch and $2.75 for adult breakfast and those prices might need to be adjusted to meet any new guidelines.

The Board discussed a proposal from the Mid-Prairie Education and Mid-Prairie Educational Support Staff Associations involving Incentive Based Budgeting (IBB) that included a compensation package increase for the upcoming school year of 3.2%. Governor Kim Reynolds signed a Supplemental State Aid increase of 2.5% in March of this year.
