It was another big night at Roth Field in Wayland with WACO hosting the 2022 Southeast Iowa Super Conference track meet on Thursday. 

Both the north and south divisions participated with final results being separate and the Columbus Community boys had the best area finish placing second out of eight in the north with 136 points, only behind Mediapolis with 186. Winfield-Mt. Union was fifth with 67, Lone Tree seventh with 56, and Highland eighth with 34. WACO was third in the south with 109 points, 41 behind first place New London. The Wildcats’ Triston Miller returned this week and was a two time champ winning the 110 high hurdles in 16.34 seconds and clearing 6’3’’ to take gold in the high jump. WACO’s Simeon Reichenbach coasted to a 110m high hurdle title (15.53) and was a part of the victorious shuttle hurdle relay (1:04) also consisting of Zach Schmitz, Mason Miller, and Isaac Oswald. 

Reichenbach caught up with KCII Sports after his open event to describe his run. “It wasn’t one of my best runs as I hit a few of the hurdles, but for the most part it felt pretty clean. I feel like I am in a good spot and that everything is coming together.” 

The Lone Tree boys were able to snatch a win in the north division shuttle hurdle relay clocking in at 1:05.38 with this team being Ethan Willoz, Jader Bajaras, Andrew Gauley, and Cade Patterson. WMU’s Gabe Hemsworth continued his tear in the 400m hurdles winning in 56.62 seconds. 

On the girls’ side, Pekin won the north with 154 points and area teams included Highland fifth (73 points), Lone Tree sixth (68), WMU seventh (56), Hillcrest Academy eighth (45), and Columbus ninth (37). WACO nabbed fifth in the south with 93 points and West Burlington won with 165. The Wolves had three event champs including Keetyn Townsley in the 100m hurdles (16.99) and she was a part of the first place shuttle hurdle relay (1:17.81) also including Tessa Huston , Josie Nelson, and Morgan Grelk. 

Townsley talked about her night and preparations for next week’s state qualifier. “I felt pretty good even though I hit a couple hurdles. Overall it was pretty good. Next week I will need to run one of the my best times because there is a girl that is pretty close to me. It would be great to automatically qualify.”

Jobey Malone had the other WMU title in the shot put throwing 36’11’’. WACO’s Jocelyn Fulton won the same event on the south side with a heave of 31’5’’. The Warrior relays of 4x200m (1:54) and shuttle hurdle (1:14.52) also won with these individuals consisting of McKenzie Vradenburg, Halle Shelman, Amy Moran, Ellah Kissell, Maggie Rinner, Ally Rinner, Katie Leichty, and Zoey Dennler. The final area first place event was Highland’s Sarah Burton out leaping the competition by 16 inches in the long jump (17’1.25’’).
