The annual Southeast Iowa Superconference soccer tournament got underway on Friday with a pair of KCII area schools moving to Saturday’s semifinals. At Central Lee, it was Hillcrest Academy taking out the homefield Hawks 2-1. The Ravens held a 1-0 lead at the break and each team got a goal after half. Micah Gerber and Diego Ramos had the Hillcrest goals and Aiden Krabill anchored the Raven defense with five saves. The Ravens are now 6-6 on the year and 4-3 in the Superconference. They will meet Burlington Notre Dame in Saturday’s semifinal round. The defending tournament and state champion Nikes were 10-0 winners over Highland in the Friday opener. Notre Dame is ranked No. 3 in this week’s poll for Class 1A, and have won six in a row against Hillcrest by a combined 33-2 score, including a 6-0 victory earlier this year. The Ravens and Nikes will meet at Notre Dame High School at 10a.m.
The Columbus Wildcats were shut out winners over Wapello 5-0 to run their overall record to 8-4. Their semifinal opponent is Mediapolis. The Bulldogs were a forfeit winner over Danville Friday. MEPO beat the Wildcats 3-1 earlier this season and has won three straight in the series. Those two schools will meet in the other semifinal at 11:45a.m. At Notre Dame, with the two match winners competing for the conference tournament title this afternoon at 2p.m.
