It was just how you drew it up to start the season on the diamond for the Sigourney baseball team on Tuesday when they opened the summer with a 4-0 victory over Wilton.
Fresh off of a 19-6 campaign last summer and a South Iowa Cedar League title, the Savages picked up right where they left off and it all started with Bo Schmidt on the hill. The senior was in midseason form by pitching seven shutout frames of two hit ball giving up three walks and striking out 11 in 106 pitches. He got some run support in the third with a three run inning and one more in the sixth. The team had nine singles with Cade Molyneux going 2-for-2 and one RBI and Jake Moore going 2-for-3 with a run knocked in.
Sigourney is 1-0 and they have their SICL opener on Monday at English Valleys.
