If I were to tell you a class 3A girls golf regional final took place in Oskaloosa on Wednesday with Washington in the field, you could probably guess how it went. For the program’s 21st time, the Demons are heading to the state tournament after placing first out of nine teams at Edmundson Golf Course.
The orange and black took advantage of a pleasant day to golf and shot an 18-hole score of 361 to best second place Lisbon’s 387. Kaylin Long and Makenna Conrad were on another level from the rest of the competition going one-two with Long posting a medalist score of 81 and Conrad shooting an 82 for runner-up. Third place was eight strokes back with Mount Pleasant’s Samantha Wibben finishing with a 90. Other Demon scores included Alecia Goff 96, Mallary Johnson 102, Maci Williams 109, and Haley Mitchell 121.
Head Coach Erin Thorius knew her team was ready to go. “We played a practice round and had some plans in place and they executed it wonderfully. They used everything they have learned this season and put it together today. The girls are really excited to head back to state. Kaylin, Makenna, and Alecia had a taste of it last year and they brought back that experience to help lead the team this spring.”
Washington will try to defend their 2021 crown on May 26th and 27th at River Valley Golf Course in Adel.
