The Mid-Prairie baseball and softball teams welcomed the Wilton Beavers to Wellman and Kalona Tuesday night. The No. 3 in Class 2A Golden Hawk baseball team rode strong pitching until the offense heating up for a 6-1 victory. Things were scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when a pair of runs went on the board for the Hawks. Wilton came back with a single run in the fifth to cut the lead in half, but Mid-Prairie would score once in the home half to go back up 3-1 and plate three in the sixth for insurance and the win. Alex Bean recorded the win on the hill for the Hawks, throwing five innings, allowing a pair of hits, one earned run, one walk and striking out eight. Brady Weber tossed two frames in relief, walking one and striking out two. At the plate, the Golden Hawks had eight hits as a team with Tyler Helmuth and Collin Miller each collecting a pair of singles. Dylan Henry drove in two while Weber and Brock Harland each added an RBI. The win moves Mid-Prairie to 4-1 on the year as Wilton falls to 0-5.
The Golden Hawk girls had a tough time with the No. 3 ranked in Class 2A Beavers, dropping the contest by 11-2. Wilton took control early with four runs in the first and three in the second to build a 7-0 advantage. They would plate two more in the fourth to run the lead to 9-0 before the Hawks got on the board with two of their own in the home half. Wilton would score single tallies in the fifth and seventh. The Beavers had 13 hits offensively and were led by Charlotte Brown in the circle who threw the complete game, scattering three Mid-Prairie hits and striking out seven. The Golden Hawks are now 1-3 on the season. The Mid-Prairie boys and girls travel to Durant tonight.
