The Kalona Rotary recognized Mid Prairie Special Olympic Athletes and their coach  Tuesday for their recent accomplishments. Special Education Teacher & Special Olympics Coach Traci Zahradnek and Mid Prairie student athletes Alex Seawright, Erin Harmston and Mason Sieren were honored for their recent achievements.

Zahradnek shares what preparation took place for the competition, “Well we do a lot of practicing at school, either in the indoor facility or outside when the weather is nice.” She adds that they competed in an area event in Cedar Rapids in March and the first place qualifiers from that event moved onto the state competition at Iowa State University in Ames, May 19, 20 & 21.

Mason Sieren finished first in the 100 meter walk race and Erin Harmston finished 1st in the 50 meter walk race. Alex Seawright placed 2nd in the mini javelin throw.
