Meeting number one between Highland and Winfield-Mt. Union summer teams went the Huskies’ way on Monday by sweeping a Southeast Iowa Super Conference matchup in Riverside. 

The softball game saw the Huskies string some runs together in the first, fourth, and sixth innings en route to a 10-0 shutout victory. Jessica Kraus was humming in the circle tossing a complete game two hitter without surrendering a walk and striking out seven batters. The offense had 12 hits from eight different batters with Sarah Burton, Mackinze Hora, and Katelyn Waters having a pair of singles. Payton Brun brought in three tallies and scored twice. Highland improved to 5-3 overall and WMU is now 3-4. 

The Huskie baseball team scored in each of the first five innings to build an 11-2 lead and an eventual 11-5 victory. Luke Miller went 3-for-3 for the red and white with the senior bringing in two runs and crossing the plate three times. Chase Schultz blasted his fourth long ball of the year and went 2-for-4 with three RBI. The senior was credited with the win tossing 3 1/3 frames surrendering two runs on two hits and striking out four. The Huskies are 8-1 and the Wolves drop to 0-6.
